Parker always stays up-to-date with current trends and drivers in the mobile machinery market. In the long term, self-driving machines are the goal, but for the near future, steer-by-wire is the clear trend: removing hydraulics from the cab. This means easier installation, all the while reducing noise levels for the driver and making the cab a safer place to work.
These trends are driving the development of control systems based on electronic signals from controllers such as a joystick or angle sensor on the steering wheel.
Machine control is a critical safety function, where the EU Machinery Directive and the ISO 13849 standard provide guidance for development work. But there are also multiple machine-specific standards, such as ISO 5010, which most of Parker's target applications adhere to.

ISO 5010 specifies the following requirements for electronic control:

Vansco USB DLA Driver is an application by the software company Parker Hannifin Electronic Controls. Some computer users choose to erase this program. This can be troublesome because doing this by hand takes some knowledge related to removing Windows programs manually. Parker offers a full range of drives and inverters, including AC and DC variable-speed, servo, stepper and mobile drives. Parker also offers a range of inverters for energy grid-tie and energy storage applications. Before a new control system is developed, a number of customer interviews, market research surveys, and patent studies are carried out, alongside possible system types being evaluated. Risk analyses as described in ISO 13849 then quide the required safety feature performance level. However, it is the manufacturer's responsibility to specify the desired performance level.
Parker's role will then be to create a system customized for each machine that meets performance requirements, not only under ISO 5010 -standard, but also in accordance with what is known as 'Performance Level PLd' under ISO 13849.
The work to interpret, understand and verify a new system using safety calculations and fault tree analyses is currently underway in collaboration with RISE (Research Institutes of Sweden, formely SP).
System description
Parker's system consists of a joystick, SIL2-class control untis a hydraulic directional control valve with double pilot-operated relief valves.
